Gbajabiamila’s seat now Vacant – Reps declare

The Federal House of Representatives have declared the seat of the former Speaker of the Honorable Femi Gbajabimila vacant. The announcement was made today by the newly elected speaker, Tajudeen Abbas during plenary.

Femi Gbajabiamila submitted his letter of resignation at plenary under personal explanation. The former speaker in his explanation said he resigned to take up a new role as the new Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu.

Abbas declared his seat vacant as he read his letter.

“We have today declared the seat of Surulere Lagos Constituency vacant following the resignation of Gbajabiamila.”

The former speaker served between June 11th, 2019, and June 11th, 2023 making him the 14th speaker of the Federal House of Representatives.

Femi Gbajabiamila thanked members of the house as well as his constituency, Surulere Lagos for the opportunity to serve.
