Former Governor of Akwa-Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio has been elected as the new Senate President of the 10th National Assembly. Senator Godswill Akpabio who previously served as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, replaces Senator Ahamed Ibrahim Lawan from Yobe State who served between 2019-2023 under the 9th Assembly.
Senator Akpabio was declared the winner after he garnered more votes, 63 than his rival Senator Abdulaziz Yari, 46. The former Governor was nominated by Senator Ali Ndume while Senator Yari was nominated by Senator Elisha Abbo from Adamawa State.
He becomes the 9th Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
