Ighalo aims for FA Cup history after firing Manchester United to semifinals (video)

Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo was on target as Manchester United defeated Norwich City 2-1 at Carrow Road on Saturday to reach the semi-final of the FA Cup with the former Super Eagles forward aiming to shoot himself into the record books as the seventh Nigerian player to win the world’s oldest club competition.

Ighalo is gunning to follow in the footsteps of former international compatriots Daniel Amokachi (Everton: 1995); Celestine Babayaro (Chelsea: 2000); Kanu Nwankwo (Arsenal: 2002; Portsmouth: 2008); John Utaka (Portsmouth: 2008); John Mikel Obi (Chelsea: 2007, 2009, 2012); and Victor Moses (Chelsea: 2018) who have all lifted the coveted trophy.

After a goalless first half, Ighalo provided the breakthrough for Manchester United in the 51st minute.

Norwich would however score an equalizer when Todd Cantwell converted a ball through to him by Emiliano Buendia in the 75th minute.

Norwich would be reduced to 100 men when Timm Klose was given a straight red card.

Manchester United had the numerical advantage over Norwich in extra time, but with the game seemingly heading for penalties captain, Harry Maguire found the winner from an assist by Anthony Martial in the 118th minute.

Manchester United become the first side to advance to the 2019/20 FA  Cup semifinals.

Ighalo has now scored in back to back FA Cup games and also scored every time he is included in the starting line up.
