Mikel stumble, Simy lose and Tijani sent off in Europe
Bristol City 2-0 Stoke
It was a bad day at the office for John Obi Mikel who was on from start to finish but could not help Stoke city avoid a 2-0 defeat at the Bet365 stadium to Bristol City on Sunday.
The former Super Eagles skipper is aiming to assist Stoke City to return to the Premier League at the end of the campaign but that target took an early wobble with the Potters yet to record a victory after two games.
Genoa 4-1 Crotone
Simy Nwankwo endured a similarly horrid day as Crotone were given a harsh welcome on their return to the Serie A as they got bashed 4-1 by an unrelenting Genoa.
The Super Eagles striker who was the club’s leading goalscorer last season started the game for the Pythagoreans but it did little to douse the attacking verve of the hosts.
Hartberg 0-2 Wolfsberger AC
18-year old former captain of the Golden Eaglets Samson Tijani was sent for an early shower with 18 minutes left to play in his team’s 0-2 loss to Wolfsberger AC in the Austrian top flight.
Tijani was sent off after receiving two yellow cards in the 55th and 72nd minute to compound the loss at home .
