No Messi/Neymar reunion as PSG pull out of race to sign Barcelona superstar

There won’t be a chance of a reunion for Lionel Messi and Neymar Jr as Paris Saint Germain are believed to have no interest in bringing the Barcelona superstar to the Parc des Princes due to fears of breaching UEFA’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations.

PSG paid eye-watering sums of money when Neymar and Kylian Mbappe arrived at the club and the Brazilian and Frenchman are the two players they are building around, so they are instead looking at other targets: a right-back, a centre-back, a midfielder and, if anything, a back-up forward.

There will be a focus on signing players to bolster the squad, as PSG did with Ander Herrera last year, rather than bringing in Messi for a lot of money.

Spanish daily Marca reckons that PSG have already paid Inter 50 million euros for Mauro Icardi this summer and though the departures of Edinson Cavani and Thiago Silva brought some breathing room in terms of the club’s wage bill, they are wary of staying on the good side of UEFA in terms of FFP.
