Braith Anasta’s fiancée Rachael Lee is raising awareness of skin cancer after her melanoma diagnosis in 2020.

The personal trainer, 34, revealed the scars from her melanoma removal as she had her skin checked on Wednesday, and urged others to do the same.

Rachael explained she’d been getting her skin checked every three months since her cancer scare two years ago, adding that doing so had ‘literally saved my life’.

She is working with the Australian Skin Cancer Foundation to raise awareness.

‘Get your skin checked! I caught mine early [and] it literally saved my life!’ said Rachael, who had melanoma removed from her stomach in November 2020.

She shared a photo on Instagram of the small lesion from before it was removed, adding that she used to sunbake for hours in a bikini with no sunscreen.

‘Baking myself every summer. I was always the first and last outside – never wore sunscreen, not even on my face because I always tanned well,’ Rachael said.

‘Everyone would tell me I’d get skin cancer if I kept lying in the sun, and I would just think, “Well, you have to go from something,” thinking it’ll be in my late eighties.’

Rachael admitted her attitude was ‘so naïve’, and ended up having pre-cancerous cells and melanoma cut out of her stomach in her early thirties.

Rachael said she now always wears sunscreen and sits in the sun fully covered, which she described as a ‘huge life change’.

‘Skin cancer is the number-one cancer in my age… wild. I would never have noticed mine. It’s only because I’ve had [twice] yearly skin checks since I was in my early twenties,’ she said.

‘Don’t get sunburnt! And get your skin checked regularly. It’s a constant worry in the back of my mind and I’m a lucky one!’

Rachael spoke to The Daily Telegraph in November 2020 about her diagnosis with stage-one melanoma.

She said she ‘cried in front of the kids’ when she first learned the news.
