Nigerian sprinter Favour ofili has revealed that she will not be participating in the Women’s 100m event of the ongoing Paris Olympic Games after ot was revealed that the Athletics of Nigeria didn’t enter her name for the event.
Ofili, the reigning national champion shared the heartbreaking news on her Instagram page on Tuesday night as she also expressed doubt over participation in the 200m event as well,
“It is with great regret that I have just been told I will not be competing in the 100 meters at this Olympic Games. I qualified, but those with the AFN and NOC failed to enter my name.”
“I have worked for 4 years to earn this opportunity. For what….to not be
entered and compete at the Olympic Games because the responsible organization failed to enter me?”
She also added that she and other thirteen athletes were unable to compete at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games as the Athletics Federation, the National Anti-Doping Committee and the Nigeria Olympic Committe withheld funds meant for the athletes to carry out tests.
“Please remember, in the last Olympic Games I was not able to compete because AFN, NADC and NOC failed to release funds for athletes in the USA to be tested, which made 14 Nigeria athletes that qualified to not compete.”
In her closing remarks, Favour ofili sounds a clarion call that if those responsible for her misfortune are not made accountable, none of the aforementioned organizations can be trusted in the future.
Ofili also fears that she might also not compete in the 200m event due to the same reason.
“Now THIS……..If those responsible are
NOT held accountable for taking this opportunity from me, neither organization can EVER be trusted in the future! Next one is the 200meters, I HOPE IM ENTERED”
Favour ofili qualified for this year’s Olympics as the women’s 100m champion at the national trials in Benin-city last month.
