Reigning music sensation Divine Ikubor popularly lnown as “Rema” performed his global hit track “Calm Down” during the 2023 Ballon D’or Award ceremony.
The ceremony which was graced by a long list of football stars including Measi, Mbappe, Haaland among others took place in Paris, the French capital on Monday.
Rema performed his record joyfully as he shook hands with Messi, Haaland, Mbappe, Messi’s wife Antonella Roccuzzo among others.
The Nigerian singer took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to share his excitement after his performance:
“Afrobeat in Ballon d’Or! I’m truly grateful for the opportunity. Glory to the most high for the grace. 🙏🏾❤️ #BallonDor”
The multi-award winner made history as he becomes the first Afrobeat artist to perform at the award.
Rema’s “Calm Down” which features Hip/Pop star, Selena Gomez in the remix was released on 25 August 2022. The remix reached number one on both the Billboard US Afrobeats Songs and the Billboard Global Excl. US charts, and it peaked at number three on the Global 200 chart.
It also peaked at number three on the US Billboard Hot 100, marking Rema’s first top-ten hit and Gomez’s ninth.
