Rivers United maintained their impressive home form in the ongoing CAF Confederation Cup as they beat Tunisian side Club Africain at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium – their adopted homeground for the competition on Sunday.
Stanley Eguma’s side scored just a goal but it was enough to give them all three points as they put last week’s defeat to Dreams FC behind them.
The match was quite a cagey affair especially in opening few minutes as both sides tred to settle into the game.
The home side eventually took control of the match as they created a couple of goal-scoring chances but failed to convert.
The Pride of Rivers had five shots on targets while the away side who struggled to find their rhythm had just one.
However, it was the home side that got a breakthrough a few minutes before half-time. Striker, Nyima Nwangua scored with a well-taken strike in the 40th minute.
The second-half was more a less a shadow of the first as the home side sat on their slim lead as they failed to direct a shot towards goal.
The match ended 1 nil as Rivers United took maximum points which saw them return to second spot on the log behind their opponent with six points after three matches.
Rivers United will take on Club Africain in the return fixture in Tunisia as they look to book their spot for the knockout stage of the competition.
