Sheffield 3 v 1: Jose Mourinho, the new specialist in failure?

Tottenham Hotspurs’ Champions League qualification hopes suffered a huge set back as Jose Mourinho’s side suffered an embarrassing 3-1 loss to Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.

Goals from 22 year old Sander Verge, Lys Mousset and Oli McBurnie gave the home side a comprehensive victory as Harry Kane bagged a consolation for Spurs.

Although the game was marked with controversy as Harry Kane’s first half equaliser was ruled out as the ball was ajudged to have made contact with Lucas Moura’s arm in the build up even though the Brazilian was fouled in the process.

Jose Mourinho

This defeat puts Jose Mourinho’s side in a tight position as they are now in ninth position with 45 points, two points behind Sheffield United in seventh position.

Jose Mourinho since taking over at spurs

It’s not too good for the Portuguese manager since he took over from Mauricio Pochettino in November last year.

  • Jose Mourinho has played 20 Premier League games with 9 wins, 7 losses and 4 drawn games.
  • He has played four Champions League matches with three losses and one win
  • He only won 12 matches, lost 9, drawn 6 in 27 matches across all competitions
  • They were 14th on the log with 14 points when he took over but they are now five places above with 45 points.

With Champions League place not I’m sight at the moment, the Job of the Portuguese is becoming increasingly difficult with regards that he now has the full complement of his squad. Thanks to COVID-19.

It remains to be seen if Daniel Levy will be patient with him to build his own squad starting from season which will be his first full.season at the club.
