Odion Ighalo is likely to be the latest Super Eagle that will not be going to the Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon. This is not due to injury but issues that seem to be out of control.
Reports, in the past few days, have suggested that Ighalo’s club, Al Shabab won’t release the striker for the tournament because of a clause in his contract.
While the Nigeria Football Federation according to reports has been in talks with the Saudi Arabia club, it appears that Ighalo won’t be in Cameroon after all.
Ighalo who finished top scorer in the last edition of the competition shared a post on his Instagram page that suggests that he won’t be in Cameroon.
His post reads;
“We plan but God decides…”
The inclusion of the former Manchester United striker in the squad before now was a subject that divided opinions considering the form of Victor Osimhen, Taiwo Awoniyi among other young strikers.
However, Osimhen’s exclusion from the team, the Emmanuel Dennis situation with Watford placed Ighalo as the most dependable striker in the team.
The Super Eagles are now left with Taiwo Awoniyi, Sadiq Umar, and Peter Olayinka as the strikers in the team.
