Super Falcons: Top 5 Performers Of The Year

The Super Falcons had a somewhat disappointing 2024, especially after their performance at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics. The nine-time African champions were eliminated in the group stage, losing all three matches and failing to earn a point.

Despite the team’s overall struggles, several individual players delivered strong performances for both their club sides and the national team.

Chiamaka Nnadozie, Rasheedat Ajibade, Christy Ucheibe, Deborah Abiodun, Asisat Oshoala, Michelle Alozie, and others stood out with impressive contributions throughout the year.

This post mirrors the top 5 Super Falcons players of the year.

1. Chiamaka Nnadozie

Chiamaka Nnadozie was undoubtedly the standout player for the Super Falcons in 2024. She remained the most consistent performer for both club and country.

Nnadozie was shortlisted for the 2024 CAF Women’s Player of the Year, though she narrowly missed out to Zambia’s Barbra Banda.

However, she retained her title as the best women’s goalkeeper at the 2024 CAF Awards.

Between June 2023 and April 2024, Nnadozie made seven penalty saves for Paris FC and the Super Falcons.

She also made history by becoming the first African to win the Best Goalkeeper award in France.

2. Rasheedat Ajibade

Rasheedat Ajibade, the captain of the Super Falcons, had an exceptional individual season with Atletico Madrid and the national team.

She played a key role in the Super Falcons’ qualification for the 2024 Summer Olympics, scoring four goals in three matches to help secure Africa’s Olympic spots.

For Atletico Madrid, she had an outstanding 2023/2024 season, netting 16 goals and providing six assists in 30 appearances. She has continued to impress this season with five goals and two assists in just nine matches.

3. Deborah Abiodun

Deborah Abiodun emerged as one of the freshest talents in the Super Falcons.

She performed well during the Olympic qualifiers and maintained her form at the tournament.

Abiodun, who plays for the University of Pittsburgh women’s soccer team under former Super Falcons coach Randy Waldrum, was instrumental for her college side, scoring four goals in four ACC games.

4. Asisat Oshoala

The five-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year, Asisat Oshoala, had a decent 2024 despite the Super Falcons’ underwhelming Olympic campaign.

Oshoala made a significant move to Bay FC after six successful years at Barcelona. She made an instant impact at the club leading them to the playoffs.

The 30-year-old striker scored 8 goals in 26 matches for her new club and netted a goal in the National Women’s Soccer League quarter-finals, although Washington Spirit defeated Bay FC.

5. Christy Ucheibe

Christy Ucheibe, the engine of the Super Falcons’ midfield, continued to show her tireless work ethic throughout the year.

Ucheibe helped her club side Benfica, secure the Campeonato Nacional Feminino title in the 2023/2024 season.

She also won the Taça da Liga and was named the Eagles Tracker Defender of the Year for the 2023/2024 season.

Osinachi Ohale, Uchenna Kanu, and Tosin Demehin among others also had decent performances in 2024.

The Super Falcons wrapped up the year as the best women’s national team of the year at the 2924 CAF Awards.
