Tokyo 2020: Nigeria’s Elizabeth Anyanacho loses Taekwando bout to Turkish opponent
Team Nigeria’s only representative in Taekwondo, Elizabeth Anyanacho, early Monday morning lost out to double Olympic medalist and former world champion, Nur Tartar of Turkey in the women’s -67kg taekwondo event.
The 22-year-old Anyanacho lost 12-7 to her more illustrious and vastly experienced opponent.
But it’s not a fight the 28-year-old former world champion would forget in a hurry as Anyanacho showed glimpses of brilliance throughout the duration of the bout.
Anyanacho, ranked 13th in her weight category, will now wait to see if Tartar makes it to the final to be eligible to fight for a conciliatory bronze medal.
