Tony Okpotu, former NPFL goal king, emerges topscorer in Tunisian League
Ex-Lobi Stars of Makurdi striker Anthony OKPOTU has emerged the highest goalscorer in the Tunisian top-flight, Ligue 1Tn, with 13 goals as the curtains were drawn on Sunday.
Fondly called the Panther for his impressive work rate, Okpotu who joined the US Monastir on the eve of the current season, failed to increase his tally in Sunday’s last game of the season against Been Guerdane but he had done enough in previous weeks to cart home the prestigious award.
He was the first player to hit double digits for Monastir and his presence has helped the modest club to their first ever qualification for CAF and Arab club tournaments.
Okpotu was also named best foreigner in Ligue 1Tn and this feat makes him only the second Nigerian after Mike Eneramo to be crowned goal king in Tunisia.
In his last season before leaving Nigeria, the Benue-born marksman emerged thr topscorer in the Nigerian Professional Football League.
