Former Super Eagles goal poacher, Yakubu Aiyegbeni has said he would not apologise after he missed a glorious chance against Korea Republic at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
Yakubu Aiyegbeni missed an open net chance which could have seen the Super Eagles qualify the second round of the tournament after Yussuf Ayila squared the ball to him in the box eighteen.
However, Yakubu Aiyegbeni said he is not going to apologise for missing the chance which more or less signalled the end of his career with the national team.
While speaking to The Nations Tv, Yakubu Aiyegbeni said he had the intention to score the goal but he couldn’t. He also added that he has scored a lot of goals for the Super Eagles and he has also sacrificed for the team before then.
Consequently, he revealed that he has no reason to apologise to the fans.
I won’t apologise at all. Why should I? I’ve scored so many goals for Nigeria too. I have sacrificed a lot for the country. Did anyone apologise to me? It was not a deliberate miss. I seriously wanted to score, but it wasn’t to be.
Yakubu Aiyegbeni played for the Super Eagles between 2000 and 2012 with 21 goals in 57 appearances.
