31-year-old Adeoye Owolewa becomes 1st Nigerian elected into American congress
A 31-year-old Nigerian Adeoye Owolewa has become the first Nigerian to be elected to the congress of the United States of America (USA).
While many Nigerians are paying attention to the USA Presidential election between incumbent Republican Donald Trump and opposing democrat Joe Biden a Nigerian has been elected to the US congress.
Owolewa was elected to congress after results were announced on Wednesday, October 4th, 2020.
He was elected to the US Congress to represent the US Capital Washington DC.
He won the congress seat with 81.59 percent of the total votes.
He took to his official Instagram page to post a message about his election into congress.
He said, “Good morning. Looks like WE DID IT!!! I want to thank everyone, from family and close friends to DC residents. Because of your contributions and sacrifices, I stand before you as America’s first Nigerian American congressman.
“In this role, I’m going to fight for DC statehood and bring our values to the lawmaking process. While today is day for some celebration, the hard work also follows. Again, thanks so much for everything. I wouldnt be here without yall.
