EFCC to return Mompha’s iPhone, Passport and wristwatches
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) will be returning all the items they seized from socialite Ismaila Mustapha popularly known as Mompha.
The items were collected from Mompha during a raid and now the EFCC has been ordered to do so by a federal high court sitting in Lagos.
The reason why the items will be returned to Mompha is that the EFCC has been with the anti-corruption body for about eight months with no proof of illegality
The statement by the judge to release the items said, “None of these items was listed as exhibit, none of the items was listed on the charge. At this stage, there is nothing on record that the items seized is being investigated on.
“The retention of the property without compliance with due process violates the requirements of Section 29 of the Act”
“Failure to release the property is illegal. As at today, no charge has been filed regarding the items. It is too long to withhold the applicant properties.”
The items to be returned to Mompha by the EFCC include
Five luxury wristwatches,
An Apple iPod,
An iPhone 8 device
A pair of sunglasses.
Regardless of the released items Mompha and his company Ismalob Global Investment Ltd are still facing a 22 count change of about N33 billion on cyber fraud and money.
