Enyimba, Heartland, Enugu Rangers Suffer Loss In NPFL Matchday 2! Video

Reigning champions of the Nigeria Premier Football League, Enyimba of Aba started their title defense on a losing note.

The People’s Elephant lost 2 nil away from home to Gombe United at the Pantami Stadium on Sunday.

Alakwe Chijioke scored late in the first half to give the home side the lead as they took a 1 nil advantage into the break.

Gombe United started the second half with the same drive as the first as they looked to double their lead.

Enyimba on the hand had just a couple of chances but none was converted as Mohammed Babaganaru’s side held on to their lead.

Another goal came in very late in the game as Ahmed Jimoh scored in the 96th minute for Gombe United to seal all three points.

The victory against the defending champions comes after they started the league with a 2 nil loss to Sporting Lagos last Monday.

In other reaults, despite taking the lead away from home, former champions, Enugu Rangers lost to last season’s runner-up Remo Stars 2-1 in Ikenne.

Kazeem Ogunleye put Fidelis Ilechukwu’s men in front as early as the 8th minute but the lead lasted for 27 minute as Ogunleyw Ogunribide equalised for Remo Stars.

Top striker, Alimi Sikiru scored the wining goal for coach Daniel Ogunmodede’s men in the 53rd minute.

The lanky striker nodded home a brillinat cross from Sodiq Ismail to secure all three points for the home side.

It was a bad day at the office for teams from the East as Abia Warriors and Heartland also lost to Kwara United and Plateau United respectively.

Sporting Lagos, who played a goalless draw away at Akwa United top the league table with four points after two games.
