Nigeria Professional Football League champions Enyimba have been drawn against Ahli Benghazi of Libya in the first round of the CAF Champions League preliminary round.
The first leg is scheduled to take place in Libya between the 18th and 20th of August while the return leg will take place at the Aba International Stadium one week later.
Enyimba, the two-time CAF Champions League champions, will take on Coton of Benin Republic or ASEC Mimosa of Cote D’Ivoire in the final round of qualification if they beat Ahli Benghazi.
The Aba Elephant have to scale through both preliminary rounds before qualifying for the group stage of the competition.
Remo Stars, who finished behind Enyimba in the league, will face Medeama FC of Ghana in the first round of qualification. Medeama FC are the champions of the Ghana Football League. The winner of the tie will take on Horoya FC of Guinea in the final round before the group stage.
Remo Stars played in the 2022/2023 CAF Confederations Cup but crashed out in the first round after losing to Moroccan side AS FAR 2-1 on aggregate.
Enyimba returns to the continent after losing to Pyramids of Egypt 6-2 on aggregate in the quarter-finals of the 2020/2021 CAF Confederation Cup.
