With less than two weeks to the Ondo State Gubernatorial Election, incumbent Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu took to the streets of the state capital, Akure to shower residents with N200 notes.
The Governor distributed the notes sporadically into the car from his car while his people scrambled to pick a few.

As expected, he was heavily criticised for his action on Twitter as many described it as vote buying.
Others simply said the people scrambled for the naira notes because of the high level of poverty in the country which the politicians are now using as a weapon against the people.

This is the reason why it's profitable for politicians to ensure people are miserably poor.
I mean, if not for abject poverty, in what context can people scrabble this much for N200 notes ?Advertisement"Poverty as a weapon of perpetuating bad governance and mal-administration" a PhD thesis

Poverty has always been a strong political tool in Nigeria. One governor was handing out rubber flip flops (bathroom slippers). Our people need to feed, that's the most basic form of our need, the politicians exploit that. Sad!

Poverty is and has always been a political tool…

Politicians weaponized it. They created poverty and weaponized it. It is a control tool.

Our political class deliberately weaponized poverty as a means to continually control the masses. This act shows most of them are bereft of positive economic agenda as it should be.
