Shiba Russell has been hired to replace Shaina Humphries as Fox 29’s evening news co-anchor.

Russell joined the station on August 15 and will co-anchor the weekday newscasts at 5 p.m., 6 p.m., 10 p.m., and 11 p.m. with Jason Martinez.

Russell most recently worked as a weekday evening anchor for WXIA, Atlanta’s NBC affiliate. She previously co-anchored the weekday newscasts at NBC 4 in New York City at noon, 5 p.m., and 11 p.m. Russell also filled in as an anchor on NBC News’ “Early Today” and MSNBC’s “Way Too Early” during that time. She has also worked as a reporter/anchor in Boston, Pittsburgh, Long Island, and the Bronx.

Russell, who is from Ocean County, New Jersey, said in a statement that she is excited to return to the Northeast.

Humphries, who joined the station in January 2019 from KCCI in Des Moines, Iowa, announced her departure on May 24 to be closer to family.
