Super Eagles, Shame On You!

Super Eagles

Soccertalk by Mumini Alao

I WILL not allow Nigeria’s victory in our second game against Guinea at the AFCON paper over the embarrassing cracks created by the Super Eagles condemnable behavior before the game.

I thought we had put behind us for good the usual rancor over bonuses and allowances that regularly blighted our outings at major competitions until news emerged on Tuesday that the players boycotted a pre-match media briefing and went late for training in Alexandria allegedly because the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) owed them some dues.

Surely, there is a history of mistrust between the national teams and the Federation, but the current NFF have gone great lengths to treat the present Eagles well in recent time. If that didn’t count for something with the boys, how about showing some respect for President Muhammadu Buhari who had assured them during a chat before the first game that all their entitlements would be taken care of. Why not hold the President to his word and see what happens?

Predictably, opinion will be divided on whether the players’ behavior was justified. Personally, I just want to put it on record that I found their action detestable. And on that account, I say to captain Mikel Obi and his troops, Shame on You!

As for the performance in the 1-0 win over Guinea, let’s talk about that on our forum, https://naijasuperfans.com/
