In his words;

“It is something that we just do now and then and that is not enough for me”

Take a knee

Wilfred Zaha, Timothy Fosu-Mensah among other black players in recent times, have been subjected to racial abuses especially on photo-sharing app, Instagram and micro-blogging app, Twitter.

The “Take a Knee” tradition became viral after NFL player, Colin Kaepernick sat and later knelt during the anthem, before his team’s preseason game in 2016 as a form of protest against Police Brutality and Racism.

Some other players in the league did the same in protest against the comments of former US President, Donald Trump on Racism and Police Brutality

Also, the “Take a Knee” tradition came into place during the Black Lives Matter movement shortly after the death of George Floyd.

Premier League players, following the resumption of the football after the forced COVID-19 break showed solidarity for the Black Lives Matter movement by taking a knee before the start of every league match.
