The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have unveiled Eric Chelle as the new head coach of the Nigerian Super Eagles.
The unveiling ceremony was held at the Moshood Abiola Stadium media conference center on Monday 13, January.
Eric Chelle proudly held up the Super Eagles’ home jersey featuring his name and preferred number, along with a team scarf draped across his shoulders during the official presentation.
NFF President Ibrahim Gusau, Technical Director Austin Eguavoen, and other officials from the football body attended the event.
Chelle shared a warm moment with Austin Eguavoen, exchanging pleasantries before the ceremony began.
He expressed gratitude and optimism about his new role:

“I want to thank my agent, the NFF, the NSC and indeed all Nigerians for this big opportunity. Coaching the Super Eagles of Nigeria is an amazing job; I do not take this appointment for granted. I am elated and will do my utmost best.
“Football is about scoring goals, so I favor an attacking style. I know the expectations of Nigerians and I will settle down and work diligently with assistants towards the goal of qualifying the Super Eagles for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”
The 47-year-old coach shared his love for Nigerian football, revealing that the Super Eagles had been his favorite team growing up.
“When I was young, Nigeria was my favorite team,” he said.
He reiterated his commitment to leading the team to success, adding that his attacking philosophy would guide their journey. Chelle also thanked Nigerians, the NFF, and the National Sports Commission for entrusting him with this opportunity.

Chelle’s primary task is to secure Nigeria’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Super Eagles face a daunting challenge, as they currently have just three points from four matches in the qualification series, putting them at risk of missing out on consecutive FIFA World Cup.
The full terms and conditions of Eric Chelle’s contract have not been made public yet but sources close to the federation say the former Malian coach has been given a short-term contract with the sole aim of qualifying the team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Reports also reveal that Eric Chelle will earn $50,000 monthly as the 39th coach of the Super Eagles while his assistants will earn $5,000 each.
Eric Chelle is also expected to work with coach Daniel Ogunmodede and Fidelis Ilechukwu as they prepare the CHAN team for next month’s African Nations Championship in Tanzania, Uganda, and Kenya.
