A woman identified as Asmau Musa has dragged her husband to a Sharia Court in Kawo, Kaduna North Local Government Area, seeking the dissolution of her marriage over domestic violence and inhuman treatment.
Asma’u told the court that her husband forced her to cohabit with chickens in the name of rearing them, saying she had continued to live with them for peace to reign.
She said during the Sallah period, she had requested for money to buy foodstuff and clothes for herself and their baby but her husband asked her to raise the money by selling some of the chicken.
“I did that, but after some time, he asked me why the number of the chicken has reduced and I reminded him that he gave permission for me to sell some of them to buy food and cloth but he denied it and started beating me. He dragged me outside the house and the action attracted neighbours who rescued me,” she said.
The husband who identified himself as Abubakar Muhammad had earlier denied some of the claims but later told the court that all allegations against him were correct.
The judge, Ahmad Bamali, adjourned the case till December 15, 2021, and advised the couple to go home and reconcile before returning to court.
