Police arrest lady for faking her kidnap to extort money from her parents in Ekiti State! Details

Police in Ekiti State have apprehended a lady named Mary Idris for reportedly faking her own kidnap in a bid to extort money from her parents whom she claimed are not taking good care of her.

She was arrested in Akure alongside an accomplice, one Victor Olawuse with whom she planned the fake kidnap.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Ekiti State, Sunday Abutu who represented the Commissioner of Police said the lady’s mother came to their station to complain that her daughter had left home since the 9th of August and haven’t since then.

Mr Abutu further stated that;

“She (Mary’s mother) said all efforts to reach her daughter via phone calls proved abortive. After a while, the younger sister of the suspect received a message through her phone that Mary had been kidnapped and demanded ransom to be paid to Access Bank Account number 11233209688.

“The command’s Special Anti-Robbery Squad operatives tracked the phone number that sent the message to Akure, Ondo State, where Mary was arrested alongside her accomplice, Victor Oluwuse.” 

While confessing to the fake kidnap, Mary said she deliberately planned her fake kidnap with her accomplice because her parents have not been taking good care of her.

She said;

“I arranged the kidnap to get money from my parents because they are not taking proper care of me.”
