Super Eagles interim coach Austin Eguavoen is quite confident of getting maximum points as the team take on Rwanda on Tuesday in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Eguavoen said the Super Eagles will respect Rwanda but they are in Kigali to get maximum points just like they did against Benin Republic on Saturday.
The interim coach said this while interacting with journalists on Monday in Kigali.
“…We play people with respect but we will get results. They (Rwanda), do respect us and we respect them also. We play people with utmost respect, you don’t look down on people these days because football has really improved, so when you joke with it, you get shocked…”
In addition, Eguavoen said the team has enough quality to respond and adapt to different kinds of formations that Rwanda might choose to play on Tuesday.
Austin Eguavoen also alluded to the expectations the Nigerian football fans have on the Super Eagles. He said he’s aware that the fans expect the team to win irrespective of who they play.
The Amavubis of Rwanda started their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with a one-all draw away at Libya while Nigeria’s Super Eagles recorded an impressive 3-0 victory at home against Benin Republic.
A brace from 2024 Ballon D’or nominee Ademola Lookman and a goal from the reigning African Footballer of the Year, Victor Osimhen ensured victory for the Super Eagles.
Rwanda is undefeated against Nigeria at home in the last two fixtures between the two sides with the last meeting being a goalless draw in a 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in 2012.
The Amahoro Stadium in Kigali will host the match on Tuesday, September 9 and kick off is set at 2 p.m.
